How to export WhatsApp chats from your iPhone

Export chat history

You can email yourself your chat history if you’d like to save a chat.

  1. Open the individual or group chat you’d like to save.
  2. Tap the contact’s name or group subject.
  3. Tap Export Chat.
  4. Select if you want to Attach Media or email the chat Without Media.
  5. Open the Mail app. You can also tap More for additional options.
  6. Enter your email address and tap Send.

Note:

  • If you’re in Germany, you might have to update WhatsApp before you can use the export chat feature.
  • If you choose to attach media, the most recent media sent will be added as attachments.
  • When exporting with media, you can send up to 10,000 latest messages. Without media, you can send 40,000 messages. These constraints are due to maximum email sizes.
  • Make sure your date and time formatting is set properly. Check the ‘Date and time settings’ of your Android Phone. ‘Use 24-hour format’ should be checked.
  • If you’re having difficulties importing WhatsApp chat messages, please try setting your language of your Android Phone to ‘English (United States)’ or ‘English (United Kingdom)’.
